Andrée Putman founded ECART in 1978 with the goal of reviving then-forgotten Art Deco works from the 1920s and 30s. Launched in the transforming neighborhood of the Marais, ECART itself emerged as a pivotal force in the design community.

Putman’s vision was to revive the elegance and simplicity of neglected pieces, bringing them back into contemporary consciousness. This mission quickly expanded beyond re-editions to include her own interior design projects and furniture creations. ECART became synonymous with a refined, minimalist aesthetic, characterized by clean lines, geometric patterns, and a sophisticated use of materials. The firm’s influence grew significantly with projects like the interior design of the Morgans Hotel in New York, which garnered international acclaim and solidified Putman’s reputation as a design visionary. ECART’s impact extended beyond individual projects, shaping design trends and inspiring a generation of designers with its timeless elegance and innovative approach.

Today, ECART honors and perpetuates Putman’s enduring vision.
