HOSOO TEXTILES

Fabric Woven in History

Hosoo, a renowned textile company based in Kyoto, Japan, boasts a rich history spanning over 330 years, officially founded in 1688. However, its lineage can be traced even further back to the 6th-century silk industry in Kyoto and the development of the Nishijin textile district in the 9th century. Initially serving as purveyors to imperial nobles, the samurai class and affluent society, Hosoo became known for its exceptional skill in Nishijin-ori, a complex yarn dyeing and weaving technique.

Moving across multiple generations the craft and heritage of HOSOO has found new avenues. In the current century, HOSOO continues to evolve, creating new innovations and discoveries to their world of textile. Collaboration plays a role in pushing the boundaries for them, and have worked in tandem with artists and designers such as Theaster Gates, Faye Toogood and Peter Marino.
