Description

The Idylle collection brings to life a selection of archival gouaches by artist, fashion illustrator and designer Christian Bérard. True to Bérard’s unmistakable brushstrokes and colour palette, as well as to the quality of the original rugs produced in the 1930’s-1940’s, the collection is as bold as Bérard’s historical impact and as beautiful as his work in fashion, design and theatre.
A major personality of the salon scene during the inter-war years, Bérard was an aesthete and man of many talents: a painter, a fashion illustrator, a scenographer, a decorator. As a close friend of interior designer Jean-Michel Frank, he started to create rug designs, including commissions for La Manufacture Cogolin.
A testament to Cogolin’s position in the canon of 20th-century rug design, the Idylle collection’s eight designs are hand-knotted by artisans in Nepal and presented in the Cogolin et Mains du monde lines.
