The Jardins à la Française collection offers a contemporary interpretation of rugs designed by Henri Gonse for the Manufacture circa 1935. Gonse, a French magistrate and diplomat, served as Secretary of the French Embassy to the Vatican and headed the French press and intelligence office in Rome during World War I. A meeting between Jean Lauer and this art and literature enthusiast, interior decoration specialist, and garden designer resulted in a series of rugs for La Manufacture in the 1930s.

Conceived as a tribute to the elegance of classical French gardens, this collection modernly illustrates Gonse’s ornamental universe. The seven rugs in the collection were selected from about twenty designs found in the company’s rich archives, revealing symmetrical compositions with refined lines inspired by French parterre gardens.

Entirely hand-knotted in our Cogolin and Les Mains du Monde lines, the rugs are now produced in Nepal using a traditional hand-knotting technique. They subtly blend wool, linen, and silk to offer a delicate, textured finish where varying pile heights elegantly highlight the motifs.

The color palette remains faithful to the original spirit while perfectly adapting to contemporary interiors. The combination of materials, relief effects, and contrasting hues gives birth to rugs that are both classic and decidedly modern.

Hand-knotted in Nepal with 80 knots per square inch. Blend of wool, linen, and silk. Variable thickness of up to 11–12 mm. Custom sizes and colors available.
